This Royal Castle was built using French architecture and as  the official resident for previous state governors. Now it is used during Royal official ceremony or state official entertaining ceremony. This castle is located at Bukit Puteri in Kuala Terengganu and is a pride of Terengganu people. It is still used for official ceremonies such as Terengganu Sultan Installation, marriage and entertaining state government official guests. 

Maziah Castle was actually built to replace the Green Castle which was burnt previously. . The Green Castle was built during the reign of Sultan Umar on 10th March 1870. 

Construction architect of Maziah Castle was Tengku Chik Abu Bakar bin Tengku Abdul Jalil. He was a relative to Sultan Zainal Abidin III. Few people also has been recognized  in preparing the plan and completing Maziah Castle including Engku Besar Paduka Raja Sayyid Abdullah bin Zin Al-Idrus, Muhammad bin Abdul Rahim (Encik Mat) and Dato’ Mata-mata. 

Wood  for building the castle came from Dungun and monitored by Tengku Panglima Besar Tengku Muda Kechik. Stone slabs and chalk supply was handled by Tengku Besar Paduka Indera. 

Maziah Castle was originally built using  materials mixture such as chalk, clay, salt, egg yolk and sugar. Almost 20 carpenters of Malay and Chinese origin were responsible in the construction of Maziah Castle at that time. 

Several renovations was done during the reigns of Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alam Shah (1920 – 1942) and Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah (1945 – 1979). Extension was also made onto the castle in 1972 and 1998.

    You can go to Maziah Castle through Sultan Zainal Abidin Road or Hiliran Road. To come to Terengganu you can take a flight , car, bus or taxi.
